This year, in the computer lab, we are working on improving the students keyboarding skills using a program called “Type to Learn 4”. The program emphasizes both accuracy and words per minute speed, and provides each student with individualized remediation and goals for success. The program is on a web-based server, so it enables students to download the game on their home computers and login to their individual accounts by using a username and password.
Some things to remind students of while they’re playing the game:
- Good posture – feet on the ground, sitting straight in their chair
- Good hands – keep wrists straight and fingers on home row ASDF JKL;
- Look ahead at the screen, do not look down at their keyboard.
Students need to complete the lesson, play all the games, and do the final challenge before they can move on to the next level. The check mark will turn green to indicate that they have successfully finished the lesson or game.
It would be ideal if students can practice 10-15 minutes a day to ensure this skill is developed properly. If you are noticing that your child is having difficulty with the program, please notify me so I can set easier goals for them to achieve. If you have any questions feel free to contact me at the school or by email at jthiessen@cispg.ca.
The instructions are attached in the link below.

Welcome to Mrs. T’s blog!!!!
The main purpose of creating this blog, is to give students the opportunity to share their work that they’ve completed in the lab, with family and friends. It’s a great way to connect with relatives that might live in a different city, province, or even a different country!
